The most popular theory is the Chihuahua comes from the country of Mexico. The Chihuahua is named after the state of Chihuahua in Mexico. They have said this breed to be the smallest breed in the world. The Chihuahua can come in two different types of breeds. The first breed is the long coat Chihuahua. This one has a soft long coat of fur. The second breed is the short-haired Chihuahua. This one has a short fur coat that is soft just like the long haired Chihuahua. Each of these breeds can be bred together and can have a litter of long haired and short haired puppies. The short hair breed is very common to everyone, but the long haired is just as loved.

This breed is a very loving companion and can be very daring when it comes to protecting someone or something. Do not let this breed fool you by its size, because they will protect anything and everything. The breed of Chihuahua is very loving and very affectionate. They make a great pet for anyone. His or her small size works for any type of living place and his or her love is great for everyone as well.

Some dogs are related to the breed of Chihuahua such as the Brussels griffon, Chinese Crested Dog, and the English toy spaniel. Somewhere down the line of breeds, these other breeds are related to the Chihuahua.

With the Chihuahua, they are not very fond of the cold weather. Having this breed around where the weather is cold, then you might want to buy a sweater for them when they are outside. In addition, this breed is known to not be very fond of strangers or other dogs. If the breed is raised with other dogs, you should be fine. Other than that, other dogs are not normally a Chihuahua’s friend. Watch when having guests over because Chihuahua’s do not like strangers.

Appearance

The Chihuahua is one of the smallest breeds in the world. Their head is like an apple shape with a muzzle that comes to a point. The color of their eyes is always dark brown or sometimes a dark ruby color. Their ears are always pointy and erect on the top of their heads. Their tail is skinny and curls towards the top of their back or to the side of their body. This breed is short and longer than they are tall. They have a level back and legs that come straight down and are very sturdy.

The Chihuahua can come in a range of colors and almost every color is accepted in dog shows like the AKC. The colors can range from sand, fawn, silver, chestnut, steel blue, black and tan and can also come in tricolor. Their fur coat is very short and very soft to the touch. There is such a big variety of colors because of the fact so many different Chihuahua’s of different colors are bred, which brings out a different variety of color. The only rare color that can be found is the color blue. This is very rare with Chihuahua’s. Therefore, if you have one, you are very lucky.

The Chihuahua can have a height of 5 inches tall and can weigh up to about 6 pounds. They can be smaller or a little bit bigger. You may have seen the teacup sized Chihuahua’s. Their size is so small that they can fit into a teacup. They can also be bigger, but not by much really.

Personality

Chihuahua’s are very loyal to their owners. When strangers are around, they will follow their owner everywhere they go, making sure they are protected. A Chihuahua uses their sharp teeth as a defense for protection. A Chihuahua is not good to have around children unless they are raised as a puppy with kids. They can become very jealous of children, as they desire all the attention.

A Chihuahua can be trained, but it takes a little more work than normal. As long as you are firm with the training you then it should go very well. Chihuahua’s are very smart, so you should not have too many problems training them. Many Chihuahua owners prefer to paper train this breed as to the fact they train better that way.

If your Chihuahua is socialized with people right away in his or her life and gets attention and love, as it should, then you should not have problems with the Chihuahua not liking strangers or other dogs. It all depends on how they are raised and such, as if they will be good with other dogs and strangers. This dog is very good for apartment life.

Care

If you live somewhere where the weather is colder, than you will want to make sure you have a nice little sweater for your Chihuahua. Chihuahua’s do not tolerate the cold very well and have a tendency to shiver when they are cold. So make sure to have a sweater on hand.

Exercise is a good thing for this breed. Many people love to carry these dogs around, but walking is much better for them instead. When walking them, try to use a body harness instead of the normal collar. This helps them when walking.

When having a short haired Chihuahua a simple brush once a week will be fine. Then you can also take a damp cloth and wipe them down to get dirt off them. The long hair Chihuahua should be brushed on regular basis to keep their fur unmated. You can give both types of Chihuahua’s a bath once a month. Make sure to keep their nails trimmed and check their ears regularly. This breed is also known to be a shedder as well.

History

When it comes to the true history of the Chihuahua, you are sure to hear various tales. Even though the Chihuahua is known to be from Chihuahua, Mexico his story begins long before this time. The various tales include the Spanish conquerors who brought small black and tan terrier types dog along with them when they invaded Mexico. The Spanish dogs were bred with the Techichi and thus developed the Chihuahua.

Another tale is of the European descent in which Spanish conquistadors brought the small dog from the island of Malta. The Chihuahua has the characteristic of a soft spot on the top of their head as did they the small dogs of Malta.

The last tale of ancestry for the Chihuahua is that Chinese developed this dog by creating miniatures from larger breeds of dogs.

No matter how the Chihuahua found its way to Mexico, it was discovered in the 1800’s and The one thing known is that this is the smallest breed in the world and is the oldest breed known to the American continent. This breed is known for being a great human companion to anyone and is known to be protective as well.

The Chihuahua fits the state of Mexico since it is known to love lying out in the sun and relaxing on hot days. The Chihuahua is not known as a worker type of breed and has always been known today and in the past as just a companion for humans.

The breed of Chihuahua is known to be a sacred breed by the Pre-Columbian nations.

As of today, the dogs are still used for what they are known for and that is for being a good companion. Chihuahua’s are also known for being good protectors from their history and are still to this day good protectors of their family. This breed is staying true to its history with being a nice companion of their masters and being good protectors for their masters as well.
